Community Employment Resource Map
Preble County currently has retail and manufacturing positions for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Preble County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Preble DD) continues to build relationships with companies throughout the community and makes employers aware of the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities.
Preble DD adopted a local Employment First policy in August 2013. They partner with the local schools districts and Educational Service Center for Project SEARCH and Bridges to Transition programs that support students transitioning from school to community based services. Project SEARCH and Bridges to Transition have been very successful in Preble County and many participants have found fulltime, community employment.
Many of the services in Preble County are individualized, and Preble DD is actively developing integrated opportunities that are both work and non-work related. Preble DD also utilizes the Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities and DODD Partnership and collaborates with the local Chamber of Commerce to support community employment.
Recently, Preble DD hired an individual with developmental disabilities to serve as the Advocacy Coordinator. This individual reports directly to the superintendent and works with the supported employment staff to develop jobs and establish relationships with other organizations to support integrated services. He ensures that these opportunities are person-centered and individualized.
