Community Employment Resource Map

Pike County

In Pike County, individuals with developmental disabilities are working in the agricultural, food service, and retail industries.

The Pike County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Pike DD) has developed several business partnerships to support individuals with DD in community employment. Local businesses have been extremely supportive of the Employment First Initiative, and the staff at Pike DD utilize person centered planning to match individuals with potential jobs.

Pike DD has very close relationships with the local Ohio Means Jobs, Chamber of Commerce, technical school, and Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities agency. They utilize these collaborations to network and create awareness in the community. Connecting agencies is important for community employment success in Pike County.

Two individuals work at a retirement community called Bristol Village. Pike DD developed a relationship with management leaders at Bristol Village and negotiated a work trial for the two individuals in an enclave setting for 20 hours a week. The individuals have shown that they have the needed skills, found natural support, and become a part of the work culture over the last four months. Both individuals have transitioned to community employment and are employed by Bristol Village.
