Community Employment Resource Map
The largest employer for individuals served through the Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Pickaway DD) is Healthcare Logistics. Three individuals have been employed for over 20 years. Other strong supporters of integrated employment include: Scioto Downs Casino, Treasure Isle, and Walmart. Pickaway DD has had community employment services for over 20 years, and with the renewed commitment through Employment First they have increased the number of individuals in the community by almost one-third over 2013.
Matching individuals with employers considering both the individuals’ interests and aptitudes as well as the needs of the employer, has been a key component in the practice at Pickaway DD. One individual has worked at Healthcare Logistics for almost 20 years much because of this approach. This individual has a very supportive supervisor and has found natural supports. The match of the employee to the employer has set a foundation for long term growth and success for both parties. Another successful employee has experienced significant career advancement while working at Scioto Downs Casino. He had always wanted to work in a kitchen and developed goals to advance in his employment. His management has been very supportive of his career development, and he now works fulltime with full benefits.
Pickaway DD currently partners with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD), Ohio Means Jobs, Jobs and Family Services, and direct service providers. These groups work together with local school districts for students moving from school to community employment. With the Bridges to Transition program, OOD has provided 20 individuals with job coaching and job skill development. Additionally, Pickaway County participates with a Business advisory team that has various representatives from both small and large businesses where they can connect and build awareness of how to find integrated employment.
