Community Employment Resource Map
Monroe County has a variety of employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities including: retail, landscaping, maintenance, food service, and working for small businesses. The Monroe County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Monroe DD) utilizes informed choice and makes families and individuals aware of opportunities in the community to support community employment.
As a small rural county, Monroe DD is able to generate awareness with several potential employers and continues to build those collaborations through outreach. They also collaborate with the local school districts, Job and Family Services, and Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities.
Monroe County has a very strong group of self-advocates that participate in the community and have been influential in developing community employment. As individuals get jobs in the community, they are telling their peers and there is a sense of excitement that is enhancing community employment outcomes.
