Community Employment Resource Map
The Crawford County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Crawford DD) has had community employment services for individuals with developmental disabilities for over 20 years. Person-centered planning is a huge factor in their success, developing individual-specific placements based on a person’s strengths, needs, and interests.
One large employer, Champion Foods, has hired four individuals and partners with the board through summer youth work experiences and professional development opportunities.
Crawford DD is committed to engaging individuals in integrated employment as a first step in providing services. Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) has been a strong partner in this initiative, and the board has a contract with OOD and three other counties to expand employment services for job seekers with developmental disabilities. This partnership provides a central intake process for the four counties, which has made services more timely and accessible to many individuals.
Crawford DD also works with all of the local school districts. A majority of youth ages 14-21 in the school system are receiving some kind of transition service from the county board. The Crawford DD 2014-2016 strategic plan identifies several goals related to employment. They have a comprehensive philosophy that promotes the rights of every individual to live in their own home, be actively engaged and work in the community.
To address transportation issues, the board created a mobility manager position to make transportation more accessible to help individuals maintain jobs in the community.
