Community connections have been critical to community employment success for the Sandusky County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Sandusky DD). They have strong relationships with service clubs like Kiwanis and Lions Club that have generated significant community awareness. Also, they have educated and experienced staff who are committed to the mission of integrated employment.
A variety of employment opportunities exist in Sandusky County including: food service, maintenance, retail, and clerical positions. Sandusky DD updated their policies to align with the Employment First rule in early 2014 and have incorporated a path to employment as part of their practices. They help individuals develop long term goals that involve community integration and work closely with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) to provide vocational services.
Sandusky DD is also a member of the Chamber of Commerce which allows for networking and outreach. Ohio Means Jobs is also a collaborator with Sandusky DD; they assist with developing jobs and act as a job site and career exploration for the youth summer program.
