Community Employment Resource Map
The Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Logan DD) has been a proponent of community employment for over two decades. A variety of integrated employment opportunities exist in Logan County including: assembly in factories, maintenance, food service, and retail. Community employment services have been offered by Logan DD since the mid-1990s and in 2013 they adopted a community first policy. This policy encourages community and integration for all aspects of a person’s life.
With such a longstanding service program, Logan DD has seen several individuals maintain significant longevity in their job positions, some individuals have been employed at the same job for more than 17 years.
Logan DD also has had strong ties to Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) for several years. Logan DD and OOD work together to find jobs that fit an individual’s interests and aptitudes. Ohio Means Jobs also collaborates with Logan DD to develop community employment opportunities. Logan DD has a relationship with local school districts to help individuals transition from school to employment. Their Bridges to Transition program has strengthened this relationship and increased their successful outcomes. Logan DD is also member of the Chamber of Commerce where they participate in a variety of events to network and build awareness with potential employers. Logan DD has a job club that has been in existence since 1998, providing for continued development of life and social skills.
Another important service provided by Logan DD that supports community employment is transportation. Logan DD significantly supported transportation in the 1990s and they recently began managing the local public transit system.
The largest influence on community employment in Logan County has been the relationships with businesses in the community. They have open communication and longstanding partnerships that have propelled the culture of community integration.
