Community Employment Resource Map
Individuals with developmental disabilities in Coshocton County experience community employment in landscaping, janitorial, food service, customer service, clerical, production, and retail. To support individuals in these positions, the Coshocton County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Coshocton DD) has implemented local Employment First and Supported Employment policies. Multiple providers in the Coshocton County also provide employment services.
Additionally, Coshocton DD has several collaborations related to community employment. They participate in the Good Life Network Community Project with DODD and OACB and are a part of the Employment First Local Leaders group. Coshocton DD works with the local Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) and Ohio Means Jobs workforce development programs. Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities partners with Coshocton DD for a school to work transition program. This allows for open communication and a relationship with local school districts. Coshocton DD also collaborates with New Hope Industries to offer summer programming for transition-age youth.
One individual has found significant success through his microenterprise. He is a wood cutting sub-contractor for a local business and also creates his own designs for sale. This individual has had his own business for several years and averages above minimum wage. He receives little additional support from Coshocton DD outside of rehabilitation technology assistance; he has been very independent since obtaining employment.
Internal support from Coshocton DD has been very influential on community employment success. There is a belief that employment is a possibility for everyone, and this is further supported by local advocacy groups which has generated more involvement in community employment.
