Step One

Read our Core Team Overview to help build your Core Team or Building Leadership Team (BLT).

Step Two

Have each Core Team member complete the Core Team Survey independently.

Be sure each Core Team member prints or downloads the PDF of their results by clicking the button ‘Print or get PDF of answers’ before they close the window or navigate off the webpage. They will bring their answers to your first Core Team meeting.

Step Three

Schedule your first Core Team meeting.

You will want to schedule your Core Team meeting which allows time for all Core Team members to complete the survey in advance. Make sure there are clear expectations of all Core Team members to complete the Core Team survey and bring their responses to this first Core Team meeting. Plan for a 90-minute meeting.

Step Four

Download the Core Team meeting agenda and review prior to the meeting.

The facilitator of the Core Team meeting will want to be familiar with Core Team meeting agenda. The questions and process are important to helping set the stage for your Core Team’s first goals and activities.

Step Five

Hold your first Core Team meeting.

Read our Infosheet titled Communication Skills to Assist in Effective Facilitation. Set a positive atmosphere for this meeting. It is important everyone assumes positive intent, so the conversation can flow freely. This will be a chance for your Core Team members to understand each other’s skills and strengths, but also areas of focus for the entire school.
