Individuals with developmental disabilities have many different types of jobs in Washington County, including positions in janitorial, food service, logistics, manufacturing, retail, small business, and higher education industries.
The Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Washington DD) emphasizes informed choice and person-centered planning for all individuals served. Communication and community awareness are two critical indicators for community employment success in Washington County. Through relationships with potential and current employers, as well as partnerships with other agencies, Washington DD built a trustworthy reputation and makes others aware that individuals with developmental disabilities are a viable part of the community's workforce.
Washington DD partners with the local Job and Family Services office to provide benefits and Medicaid Buy-in information. Other collaborators include Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, Ohio Means Jobs, and the local Chamber of Commerce, all of which have been supportive of the Employment First initiative. In partnership with local school districts, Washington DD hosts a summer youth program for students ages 14-22.
Trademark Solutions is a supportive employer in Washington County. One individual has been employed for almost two years and another has been employed for eight months. These individuals work in the design office where they help with customer service and designing new products, such as pens, business cards, and logos.
