Community Employment Resource Map
The Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Warren DD) recently adopted an Employment First policy and implemented several practices that support community employment. They partner with the Employment First counselor through Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) to provide retention training, job development, and job coaching. They provide trial work experiences for transition youth and adults while utilizing person-centered planning to best serve individuals based on their interests, needs, and abilities.
Warren DD works with Ohio Means Jobs, other county boards, and local school districts. Through the Employment First Local Leaders project, they partner with Montgomery and Greene County Boards of Developmental Disabilities to address barriers to systems change identified through a local needs assessment. They developed the County Networking Group that is comprised of representatives from every school district, OCALI, transportation services, OOD, and mental health services. This group discusses each agency’s role, co-planning, and how to best assist youth transition from school to employment.
Employment industries in Warren County include: food service, retail, logistics, clerical, maintenance, banking, healthcare, and entertainment. Procter & Gamble (P&G) carved out a clerical position for one individual. After interviewing with P&G, they were impressed with her job skills and wanted to provide her an opportunity.
Warren DD’s staff are excited and dedicated to the mission of Employment First. They are committed to assisting individuals move from segregated to integrated settings in their communities.
