Community Employment Resource Map
Richland County Board of Developmental Disabilities (Richland DD) serves individuals who work in retail, food service, manufacturing, hospitality, medical and maintenance industries. To support these individuals and other community employment, Richland DD has a local Employment First policy and an interagency agreement with school districts, mental health providers, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, local Chambers of Commerce, and the local Ohio Means Jobs. Richland DD also hired and developed new job descriptions for staff positions to better support community employment. They have an Employment Connection program that assists individuals in transitioning to community employment by teaching them a variety of skills needed for successful community employment.
Richland DD also has a contract with the City of Mansfield to operate a restaurant and vending machines in the city building and concession stands at local parks. These sites serve as training opportunities for individuals seeking community employment. Seven individuals have successfully been trained at the City Garden Cafe and then found placements in the community that pay above minimum wage. The City Garden Cafe has a team leader position that was filled by an individual with disabilities.
Richland DD operates an art studio and gallery where individuals can create and sell their art pieces as well as training for retail positions. Richland DD has two Project SEARCH sites for youth transitioning to adult services to develop their interests and job skills. As a longstanding program, Richland DD has significant support in the community and has several strong relationships with employers.
