Mercer County

Mercer County has supported individuals in community employment for more than 20 years, operating under the philosophy of community integration. Five full-time staff are dedicated to providing these supports and community employment options. Additionally, the county board superintendent is a strong proponent of community employment and champions the ideas of community integration.

Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities has had a strong presence in Mercer County for the past decade. They also have strong partnerships with multiple school districts, helping students transition from school services to community employment. While Mercer County is small; they offer a broad range of opportunities for community employment—healthcare, food service, maintenance, etc.  Much of the local economy is based on automotive factory work, and individuals with disabilities benefit from this industry. At Reynolds and Reynolds, an automotive supplier, individuals with developmental disabilities work multiple shifts alongside other workers without disabilities.
