Community Employment Resource Map
Individuals with developmental disabilities in Columbiana County work in a variety of community settings, including a hospital, an equestrian center a greenhouse, retail, food service and agricultural environments. Columbiana County Board of DD (Columbiana DD) utilizes person-centered planning and attempts to match individuals with DD with positions that fit the individuals interests, strengths, and the needs of the employer. Columbiana DD has a local Employment First policy that promotes integrated settings for the individuals they serve.
Collaboration has a major component to the success of Columbiana County services. Columbiana DD works closely with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, Ohio Means Jobs, local businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, and local school districts. The local Educational Service Center has developed 25 different sites for community employment for transition-age youth to work during the school year. Columbiana DD also partners with Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities for the Bridges to Transition program.
One individual currently works at a pizza restaurant. She was very artistic and has been able to utilize those skills while making pizzas and has even created her own signature dish. This Bridges to Transition graduate has been working at this location for over two months.
Individuals served by Columbiana DD have shown a strong desire to work and have been influential in community employment success. Columbiana DD is also proactively educating the community and collaborating with other agencies and businesses in order to successfully support integrated employment opportunities.
