Maumee, OH (September 4, 2018) - Venture Bound, a program under the Great Lakes Collaborative for Autism, will be celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month in October with a complimentary screening of the film, Intelligent Lives. The screening will take place on October 24, 2018, at the Maumee Indoor Theatre. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, and the movie will begin at 7:00 pm. Intelligent Lives stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities—Micah, Naieer, and Naomie—who challenge public perceptions about intelligence as they navigate high school, college, and the workforce. Academy Award-winning actor and narrator Chris Cooper contextualizes the lives of the central characters through the emotional personal story of his son, Jesse, as the film unpacks the shameful and ongoing track record of intelligence testing in the United States.
An In Depth Look at Career Planning Services

Please join us for a training on the HCBS Career Planning Service and the Employment First Partnership. We will discuss the the purpose and intended outcome of career planning services and set forth provider qualifications, requirements for service delivery, documentation, and payment standards for service. We will then take a deeper dive into the nine different components of Career Planning including an in depth look at Career Discovery. The training will also give an overview of the Employment First Partnership including the details of the partnership, the success of the partnership, and how to become a partner. There will be time left for questions or comments on either topic at the end of the presentation.
Supporting Employment + Community Life Engagement Using Trauma Responsive Approaches

This training, facilitated by Colleen Mercuri, MSW, LISW-S, is specifically designed for providers supporting individuals in day and pre-vocational programs, and through employment services, with a focus on community integration. This 2-hour introduction emphasizes trauma responsive approaches relating to supporting authentic community connections.
1. Participants will enhance their knowledge of the affect that trauma and/or toxic stress has on the individuals they support.
2. Participants will be able to identify behavioral issues linked to trauma and/or toxic stress.
3. Participants will be able to identify techniques designed to build resiliency in those they support.
Colleen Mercuri-Johnson, MSW, LISW-S works as a counselor for Butler Co. Board of Developmental Disabilities. She holds a Certificate in Traumatic Stress Studies from the Child Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute. She provides consultation to teams supporting individuals with complex trauma histories and is a co-lead for the Southwest Regional Trauma Informed Care Collaborative, an initiative through Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services and Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.
Career Discovery Best Practice Round Table

A panel of real-world practitioners (SSAs, providers, and an OOD Vocational Counselor) will discuss Career Discovery best practices, from the beginning of the process through the Career Profile, and the eventual development of great outcomes. Round Table panelists include reps from Ohio Valley Goodwill, Buckner Employment Services and Training (BEST), Monco, Butler County DD, Hamilton County DDS, Montgomery County DDS, and Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD).
This is the first “Best Practice RoundTable” the Southwest Ohio Provider Transformation Support Network is organizing. We will be doing other round tables concerning provider transformation and best practices, “deep-diving” into the way supports are defined, planned, and provided to create more community-based outcomes.
